Shandong Electrical Engineering & Equipment Group Co., Ltd. (SDEE) in conjunction with Narada, formally signed a contract for the 54MW/54MWh new power storage project with NamPower in its capital Windhoek on 13 December. This is the first power storage project in Namibia.

Located in Omaburu, Erongo Province, northern Namibia, the project aims to address the demand for power shortages, reduce the impact of unstable photovoltaic power generation on the power grid, and improve the quality of electricity used by residents in the region. The project not only realizes the innovation of the profit model of energy storage, but also responds to the global energy low-carbon environmental protection goal.

Namibia currently sources 70% of its electricity from neighboring countries. After completion of the project, it will not only guarantee the stable operation of the local power grid, but also improve the efficiency of Namibia's energy trading in the Southern African Power Pool (SAPP), reduce the dependence on emergency imports to the grid of the South African National Power Corporation (SANPC), and will have a positive impact on Namibia's energy.

Managing Director Kahenge Haulofu of the NamPower said the project will reshape the way we generate, distribute and consume electricity, bringing huge economic benefits to consumers. It will also play a positive role in emergency energy management and reducing CO2 emissions.

After years of accumulation, Narada has comprehensive technical capabilities from solution design, system integration, operation and maintenance, and integration of generation, grid, load, and storage, and has operated a number of mature benchmark projects overseas.

With the development of the global energy storage market, Narada's energy storage business is rapidly growing. 2023 to date, Narada has won and signed a total of more than 7.5GWh of new power energy storage projects.
